Occupied...

Last night I was thinking on occupied countrys. Palestine sure is not the only one under foreign oppression.
I quote from one website:

"It has become clear, very quickly, that Iraq is not a liberated country, but an occupied country. We became familiar with the term "occupied country" during World War II. We talked of German-occupied France, German-occupied Europe. And after the war we spoke of Soviet-occupied Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Eastern Europe. It was the Nazis, the Soviets, who occupied other countries.

Now we are the occupiers. True, we liberated Iraq from Saddam Hussein, but not from us. Just as in 1898 we liberated Cuba from Spain, but not from us. Spanish tyranny was overthrown, but the United States established a military base in Cuba, as we are doing in Iraq. U.S. corporations moved in to Cuba, just as Bechtel and Halliburton and the oil corporations are moving into Iraq. The United States was deciding what kind of constitution Cuba would have, just as our government is now forming a constitution for Iraq. Not a liberation, an occupation.

And it is an ugly occupation. On August 7, The New York Times reported that U.S. General Ricardo Sanchez in Baghdad was worried about Iraqi reaction to the occupation. Iraqi leaders who were pro-American were giving him a message, as he put it: "When you take a father in front of his family and put a bag over his head and put him on the ground you have had a significant adverse effect on his dignity and respect in the eyes of his family." (That's very perceptive.)" LINK

So it's us westerns who are occupieing alot of countrys, maybe from reasons that benefit us too?
Everyone knows what happened in Iraq, first there was supposed to be some nuclear weapons, but there wasn't now many American oil companies are located to Iraq and many Americans are in administrative possessions in Iraqis governance.
...and the world may wonder.. what was the true reason on invading Iraq?

another quote from the same site:

"Well, Rumsfeld has clarified things for us.

That explains why this government, not knowing exactly where to find the criminals of September 11, will just go ahead and invade and bomb Afghanistan, killing thousands of people, driving hundreds of thousands from their homes, and still not know where the criminals are.

That explains why the government, not really knowing what weapons Saddam Hussein is hiding, will invade and bomb Iraq, to the horror of most of the world, killing thousands of civilians and soldiers and terrorizing the population.

That explains why the government, not knowing who are terrorists and who are not, will put hundreds of people in confinement at Guantanamo under such conditions that twenty have tried to commit suicide.

That explains why, not knowing which noncitizens are terrorists, the Attorney General will take away the constitutional rights of twenty million of them.

The so-called war on terrorism is not only a war on innocent people in other countries, but it is also a war on the people of the United States: a war on our liberties, a war on our standard of living. The wealth of the country is being stolen from the people and handed over to the super-rich. The lives of our young are being stolen. And the thieves are in the White House."

In Palestine; USA let's Israel do the dirty work for them or maybe it's the other way around; maybe Israel let's US do their dirty work in other Arab countrys..?

Sure in some cases it would be a good thing for someone steps in if the country is having human rights stomped on, but has that been the true reason and the only reason for US to step in in so many plases? I don't think so..

Who is the terrorist really?

The word terrorism has many definitions. The most known to us is maybe a terrorist who is trying to get to their point by violence against innocent civilians. The people fighting against these terrorist usually wears army clothes and so on..
The idea of a terrorist is implanted to our brains so deep that it is nearly impossible to us to see clearly.
What the terrorist also had advanced army equipment and was defending their rights to their ideology and lifestyle, which side would we call terrorists now?

We think that countrys living in simple conditions whit simple rules are retarded and we keep this our right towards " humanity" to go there and "liberate" this nation from these retarded rules and rulers.
But isn't this only our opinion? How do we know for sure that our way of life is the right one??
Is our way so good? Drunken people, rapists, criminals, poors and so on..
Our society is rotten.
We don't care about our old people, we don't care about our poor people. The young and the wealthy are doing fine and that is all we see.
But that ain't the right way or is it??
But still we wan't our way to spread all over the world, we think all the humans in this planet want's to live the same way that we do. We do not respect any other way of living! What makes us better to decide what kind of life should all the humans live on this planet?
Who gave us the right to make that decision??

Egyptian plan for Hamas-Fatah reconciliation calls for PLO reform, continued negotiation with Israel
Date: 20 / 10 / 2008  Time:  21:05

[Ma'anImages]
Bethlehem – Ma’an – Egypt has drafted a proposal to bring rival Palestinian factions Hamas and Fatah under the umbrella of a unity government and a reformed Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO).

Ma’an obtained a copy of the four-page proposal, which was delivered to Hamas and Fatah on Sunday. The document suggests that the PLO, an umbrella organization that excludes Hamas, should be reformed to include all the Palestinian factions.

Egypt is hosting a summit meeting of 13 factions on 9 November in hopes of healing a political rift that has persisted since Hamas violently took control of the Gaza Strip in June 2007. After the takeover, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas dismissed a unity government. Hamas beat Abbas’ Fatah party in the 2006 Palestinian parliamentary elections.

The document says that previous agreements between Hamas and Fatah will be the basis of the reconciliation talks. It refers to the Cairo agreement of March 2005, the National Conciliation document of May 2006, the Mecca agreement of February 2007, Abbas’ call for dialogue in June 2008.

The proposal envisions the formation of a united transitional government that would oversee the key steps to unity, including new elections, combating the siege of the Gaza Strip, and reforming the security forces.

The document includes key demands that have been issued by both Hamas and Fatah. Hamas has previously demanded that the Palestinian security forces be depoliticized, so that they report to the central authority rather than individual factions, although now Hamas may not want to give up its Executive Forces in the Gaza Strip.

The document refers to ‘simultaneous’ presidential and legislative elections, in accordance with Fatah’s view that President Abbas should stay on beyond the end of his term in January, until new elections in 2010. Hamas wants Abbas to step down in January 2009.

In the draft the PLO is reaffirmed as the ‘sole legitimate representative’ of the Palestinian people. It calls for the implementation of the 2005 Cairo agreement which calls for the PLO to be reformed to include all Palestinian factions. Implicitly, this is a call for Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and the independent Palestinian National Initiative to be included in the PLO, which until today is dominated by Fatah and several smaller parties, including the leftist Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP).

The draft also calls for new elections for the Palestinian National Council, the PLO’s parliament which represents Palestinians both in the occupied territories and abroad.

The document recommends that President Abbas, as the PLO leader, continue negotiations with Israel on a final status agreement. Any agreement must however be presented to the Palestinian National Council for approval, or possibly to call a referendum.

Individual committees dealing with elections, security, the PLO, and the makeup of the Palestinian government are to be formed, and representatives of the Arab states are invited to participate in those committees.

America...

Ok, before I start writing this post, I have to tell you one thing.. I am engaged to a Iraqi man, he is a very good man and I like him alot!

Because I know very little about Iraq, I have been looking for information about it lately.. I ran into a film named "No end in sight" and instantly thought how similar things in Iraq and in Palestine is..
The USA has made many things difficult, has helped to make wars and helped the other side too depending on their current interrests..

So, alot of bad things there too.. Maybe it's USA:s best interrest to keep the arab world fighting no matter what..

Israel israel

From free Gaza website

This Sunday, the 12th October 2008, the Israeli navy continued its violent harassment of Palestinian fishermen. A fleet of seven fishing boats from the port in Gaza City initially spotted two Israeli gunboats operating in Palestinian territorial waters at 08:45. The gunboats began circling some of the fishing boats at the rear of the fleet, and demanding that they turn around and head back towards Gaza City. Some minutes later one of these gunboats opened fire with a deck mounted machine gun – none of the fishing boats were however hit.

By 10:30 the fishermen and some of the six human rights observers (HRO) present on their boats observed a large Israeli naval vessel quickly approaching from their rear. Reaching the two fishing boats at the back of the fishing fleet, the Israeli boat then proceeded to mount two sustained attacks on them with a high powered water cannon. It also opened fire with a machine gun during one of these attacks. It was unclear what the intended target of the machine gun fire was. The wheelhouse of one of the fishing boats did however sustain significant damage – several wooden panels were either punctured or ripped from their framework by the water cannon.

The Israel vessel, upon reaching a further four fishing boats that were hauling in their nets, began assaulting them with the water cannon. The jet from the water cannon knocked one o the HROs off their feet, propelled them across the deck and almost into the sea. As a result of this attack the nets of three of the fishing boats became entangled with each other. Despite the obvious difficulty these boats were now in, the Israeli vessel continued its assault with the water cannon.

For the next several hours, the large Israeli vessel continued its series of attacks on the Palestinian fishing boats. As a result, the windows of two of the fishing boats were broken. One fishing boat sustained further damage to its wheelhouse.

No one was seriously injured on this occasion by the Israeli water cannon. It should be noted however that the use of this weapon against civilian fishing boats, severely endangers the safety of all those onboard. Clearly, there is a significant risk of someone being swept overboard, or sustaining severe injury by either being propelled into some object on board, or having some object propelled into them. In recent weeks the lower back of an Italian HRO was badly lacerated after a water cannon shattered a window in the wheelhouse in which he was standing, and propelled the glass shards at him.

Gaza tunnels

I'll copy an interesting story from maan news site, it's about the tunnels from Gaza..

Gaza – Ma’an – Every time a Gazan enters one of the tunnels snaking beneath the no-man’s-land of the Gaza-Egypt border, he knows that his fate will be one of the following:

Death by suffocation, whether by sand, gas fumes or water;

Death under a collapsing or demolished passage;

Death or injury by electrocution from faulty or wet wiring;

Exit to the far side of the tunnel.

The current death toll of Gazans in the tunnels is nearing 50, meaning the chances that any one of the hundreds of Gazans will perish in the grave-like passages seem increasingly likely.

The tunnel story began when Palestinian resistance fighters needed arms in the struggle against Israel, and dug the first tunnels to secure weapons. The trade soon expanded to include drugs and then a “precious items” black market trade.

Now, one and a half years after the Hamas take over in Gaza and a year after the Israeli blockade, the ‘weapons’ being brought in to Gaza are basic foods and “luxury goods” like sprite and chocolate, to fight off hunger and sadness.

The tunnels have become a public phenomenon with their own laws, regulations and tax rates; they are even the subject at Hamas bloc cabinet meeting sessions.

Those who work daily in the tunnels describe their work as trying and dangerous, but add that there is no other alternative, and they must somehow make a living. Despite the risks some say they are lucky, compared to the thousands of unemployed, and add that at least the tunnels are a source of commercial revenue for the stifled Strip.

Merchants made use of lands on the borders with Egypt and dug their tunnels there. Digging starts near a home, or secluded piece of land, and the owners might help diggers or find equipment to help in the beginning stages. Workers are recruited by word of mouth, and when the 2 or 3 kilometer tunnels are finished, about 20 meters below the earth, ten workers remain and begin pulling goods through the passages with long lengths of rope.

Wives are the latest “luxury” item smuggled in

As the trouble in the Gaza Strip began, many a family member travelled abroad to escape the siege or infighting between Fatah and Hamas. Mothers went to live with family in Egypt or overseas, and many have not been allowed back into the area due to strict Israeli and Egyptian control over crossing points.

Brides from Egypt or other countries, engaged to Gazan men and unable to enter the Strip to marry, turn to the tunnels along with the exiled wives, after giving up on legal ways of entering the area.

One tunnel worker estimated that ten workers were brought in each month through the network of tunnels. The desperate women must crawl into open containers that are then dragged through the tunnels, their bodies covered to protect them from the rough ground.

Mechanics of the Tunnels

Air pumps are used to ensure an adequate supply of oxygen through the underground networks. Pumps are turned on every hour for 15 minutes when diggers or smugglers are below the earth.

Phones are installed every 500 meters to kilometer so problems or needs can be communicated to those manning the entrances to the tunnels.

The cost of each package of goods dragged through the tunnels was initially 500 US dollars, but when the industry exploded the price went down to 300, then 200 US dollars when the Gaza markets became saturated with Egyptian goods.

Gazans have begun referring to goods from Egypt, smugglers, and indeed much of the Gazan economy by the now well known phrase “tunnel commerce.” Most say they never dreamed that they would be able to find many of the goods they have been deprived of as a result of the Israeli blockade. Supply, many add, is still below demand, and the Gaza tunnel industry has room to grow.

Workers get a discount of 10 US dollars for packages they drag themselves through the tunnels.

The cost of building a tunnel is 80-90 thousand US dollars for a short one (500 meters) and double to triple that cost for the one or two kilometer tunnels.

One worker estimated that there are currently 270 tunnels with a single entrance each from the Palestinian side, and added that the Egyptian tunnels often have two entrances, since authorities routinely demolish tunnel openings.

Accusing Egyptian authorities of murder

Families of tunnel victims ask only that the Rafah crossings be opened so they can obtain goods legally and without the threat of death. Several have accused Egyptian authorities of murdering civilians with their political policies of keeping Rafah closed, as well as their continued efforts and destroying many of the tunnels.

Tens of tunnel entrances have been imploded, and it was recently revealed that American undercover agents with specialized equipment were working to locate and shut down the tunnels from the Gaza side.

Rafah the richest governorate in Gaza

The town of Rafah, which actually straddles the Egypt-Gaza border, and its surrounding areas, has become a large commercial center due to the local profits from the smuggling.

Many Gazans in other districts say they would never use their money to fund tunnels that have cost many Gazans their lives, and have made illegal smuggling status quo in Gaza.

The de facto government and Hamas say they are waiting for confirmation that the official Rafah crossing will be permanently opened by Egyptian authorities before they crack down on the smuggling. They have also started forcing tunnel owners to pay up to 50 thousand Jordanian Dinars (70,600 US dollars) to each family who loses a son or father in the tunnels.

De facto government authorities have also said that they are working to ensure that only goods prevented from coming into the Strip by Israel are being allowed through the tunnels. Items like weapons and drugs are strictly prohibited and are confiscated when found.

What a nice news for Ramadan

From maan news:

Bethlehem - Ma'an - Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on Wednesday that Iran would "stand by" Gaza's Hamas leaders, according to the Islamic republic's state-run television station.

Khamenei told viewers that de facto Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh would "never be left alone," and that the leader is a "mujahid," or holy warrior.

The agency also quoted the Iranian spiritual leader that Israel's "Zionist regime is moving toward weakness, destruction and defeat," while Palestinians would soon see "that great day" when Israel is defeated.

Khamenei spoke at a prayer service marking 'Eid Al-Fitr, which celebrates the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

Israel's ambassador to the United States issued a statement saying that "not since World War II has the world faced such a dangerous and significant threat."

"The fanatical Iranian regime, a sponsor of global terror, is threatening the elimination of another state and is striving to achieve a nuclear weapon," he said.

The ambassador also insisted that "this should be a moment of truth for the world to take immediate action to prevent this regime from pursuing the development of military nuclear capabilities."

Himself marking the Jewish new year, Rosh Hoshana, Ambassador Meridor added that "Iran presents each and everyone with a question: 'What more can I do in the coming year to prevent this nightmare from coming true?'" he said.

Iran does not recognize the state of Israel, which officials have called a "cancerous tumor." Iran supports many Palestinian resistance movements, including Hamas.
